PS4 Day One Patch Details

Sony have detailed what the 300MB day one patch will do to your PS4:

  • Remote Play: Users will be able to access PS4 titles displayed on their living room TVs and play them on a PS Vita system over Wi-Fi networks by using PS4 Link. SCE anticipates that most PS4 titles will be playable on the PS Vita system through Remote Play. (Remote Play will not be enabled on all games, including those that require peripherals such as PlayStation Camera or certain third party peripherals.)
  • Second Screen: Users can use the PS4 Link application for the PS Vita system, and PlayStation App for iPhone, iPad, and Android based smartphones and tablets, to use these devices as second screens in supported titles. PlayStation App has the ability to enable users to interact with games with their mobiles devices. For example on The Playroom, a title pre-installed in all PS4 systems that requires PlayStation Camera, users can draw pictures on their mobile device screens and flick them towards the TV. The images then appear as a 3D object within the game.
  • Record, take screen shots, and upload gameplay effortlessly: The PS4 system provides dedicated, "always on" video encoding systems that enables seamless uploading of gameplay. Users can share their epic triumphs by simply hitting the "SHARE button" on PS4 Wireless Controller (DUALSHOCK4), take screenshots or scan through the last 15 minutes of gameplay, tag it and return to the game - the video uploads as the user plays. At the PS4 system's launch in North America, users will be able to share their images and videos with friends on Facebook and screenshots with followers on Twitter.
  • Broadcast and spectate gameplay: The PS4 system also enhances social spectating by enabling users to broadcast their gameplay in real-time to game fans around the globe, using Ustream and Twitch live internet streaming services. SCE provides two ways for users to view live broadcasts. First, the Live from PlayStation application on PS4 aggregates streams from all PlayStation users. Second, users can spectate friends' PS4 gameplay from PCs, and applications such as Ustream, Twitch, and browsers, which are installed on their mobile devices. These applications can be easily started up via PlayStation App, and users can also use these applications to post comments to gameplay broadcasts. Furthermore, users with PlayStation Camera can stream camera images and microphone sounds along with their live gameplay broadcast.
  • Play as you download: This feature enables users to play supported digital titles as they are being downloaded. When a game is purchased, users can start playing after PS4 downloads a portion of the data, while the rest of the game is downloaded in the background during actual gameplay. Games may be downloaded in stand-by mode.
  • Multi log-in: A maximum of four users can log-in to a single PS4 system simultaneously. These players can use their own save data to play games, and also earn trophies on their own Sony Entertainment Network accounts even when playing a multi-player game together on a single PS4 system.
  • Party (Voice chat): By using the Mono Headset bundled with the PS4 system, users will be able to chat with up to eight friends enjoying different applications or games. Furthermore, users can use Party to chat between PS4 and PS Vita systems.
  • Face recognition and voice commands: Users with PlayStation Camera will be able to register their facial image onto their PS4 system, and login to their system using facial recognition instead of DUALSHOCK4. Furthermore, users can use either the microphone of the Mono Head set connected to DUALSHOCK4, or PlayStation Camera to navigate through the PS4 home screen (PlayStation Dynamic Menu) with voice commands to start up games and shutdown the system, among other features.
  • Background music player: Users can enjoy gameplay while listening to music in the background with Music Unlimited, a cloud-based digital music service. Users can also voice chat with friends while listening to music.
  • Online Multiplayer: PlayStation Plus (PS Plus) members will be able to play PS4 titles online with other players via the network. PS Plus makes it easy for members to join available online multiplayer matches in a variety of ways, including the ability to easily join a game from a live stream broadcast or Party voice chats.
  • Blu-ray Disc and DVD player: Users can enjoy not only gaming on their PS4 system, but also Blu-ray and DVD video contents (at first time use, users must connect to the internet to activate this feature).

Call Of Duty: Ghosts PS4 1080p Vs Xbox One 720p?

Sony and Microsoft respond to the rumour that Call Of Duty:Ghosts will run at a higher resolution on PS4 than on Xbox One. Have Sony got the jump on Microsoft?

It's now almost 100% confirmed that COD will run at full HD 1080p on PS4. It's in the PSN store now to pre-order on PS4.

Call Of Duty has long been a Microsoft-preferred product, with Activision and Microsoft getting all cushy by providing timed exclusives on Xbox 360 for most of the generation.

It seemed like the same was going to happen next-gen too - Call Of Duty: Ghosts will have timed exclusive content on Xbox One - but it seems there's a twist.

A rumour spun out of control recently when an IGN preview on Call Of Duty: Ghosts had the game playing in 1080p on PS4; the first time a PlayStation console was used to market a Call Of Duty game.

This lead to speculation that the Xbox One version of the game - or, worse still, the console itself - was not quite up to scratch, yet the PS4 one was.

Now gamers have taken to Twitter to ask key figures just how true this might be.

Albert Penello of Microsoft clearly saw the fallout from this speculation and Tweeted "I've seen COD: Ghosts running on Xbox One. It looks f'n amazing. Wait for real footage, then judge for yourself."

While there's no doubt of that, it's a little bit suspcious. Penello doesn't directly state that the Xbox One version of Call Of Duty: Ghosts will be running at 720p, merely that it 'looks amazing'.

Phil Spencer, also of Microsoft, was asked directly whether or not this news was true, and responded saying: "As first party I don't get builds of 3rd party games. I know what our 1st party games are doing."

Again, particularly evasive.

Shuhei Yoshida was also quite evasive on the matter, and failed to confirm the truth of the PS4 version - even if his response was a little more promising.

Yoshida was asked if the PS4 version of Call Of Duty: Ghosts was native 1080p, to which he replied with simply "wait for Activision to confirm".

That's not a yes or a no, but it does suggest that it is true, but not something that Yoshida can discuss openly.

We're not entirely clear on whether or not this rumour is true, but it won't be long until we find out.

If this is the case it could be a shocking blow for Microsoft, whose console has long been the preferred format for the Call Of Duty franchise.
Take a look on IGN for the shock preview on Sony's PS4.

Playstation Online Exclusive: PS Vita Slim heading to the UK 2014

That's right, you heard it hear first. Sony have prepped a major UK retailer informing them that the recently released PS Vita slim is in fact bound for the UK shores at the turn of the year. No date was given to us just, "beginning of the year".

The UK retailer wishes to remain anonymous but we'd like to point out that the retailer in question is one of the UK's major games/media outlets.

The new Vita is both slimmer and lighter but has no OLED screen just a normal LCD screen. Many comparison shots hit the net following the Tokyo game show this year with outcries of the new screen being inferior to the old OLED screen. Now out in Japan it turns out the new screen is fine, just different hues etc. I'm glad I have the OLED screen personally.

Look out for more news as we get it.

Playstation 4 trouncing Xbox One in console and games pre-orders in the US

Stats from the US show poor numbers for exclusives on xbox one with the biggest shock going to Titanfall with only 50,347. Sony Exclusive Killzone Shadow Fall beats Ryse, Dead Rising 3 and TitanFall with change left over. I can only see Titanfall being a timed exclusive if numbers stay like this.

This is the Xbox Ones home territory. PS4 out performs every game bar Call of Duty, once again the xbox will be home to COD but PS4 numbers are not far behind. The number of Battlefield 4 pre-orders on PS4 trounces the Xbox One numbers.

On the console front PS4 is still out in front with 725,000 and Xbox at 525,000. Worldwide PS4 numbers now stand at well over 1.5 million units.
Take a look at the numbers here.

Soul Destroying: Beyond Two Souls Review

Never before have I found myself after finishing a game with a genuine full body rush from toe to the top of my head, a full body tingle. Never before have I had real tears running down my face. Sure after Ico and Shadow Of The Colosus I was moved and yes, a small tear. But Beyond moved me in only a way that a big sad blockbuster could. ET, The Notebook, you get the picture.

Beyond is the game that every PS3 gamer should play. I was shocked to see some very low scores, yes there have been some high scores but I have to question what sort of people have reviewed and scored the game so low, and quite frankly I worry about them.

Two Souls has you playing a troubled young girl with a strange power, this power has you playing in first person mode and can be a very powerful aid.

Through the play-through you will encounter stages where you will be torn with what you must do or rather what you feel you must do. Some missions will have you performing acts that you never thought you'd do in video game format.

The game is very varied in that you'll never get fed up with playing. Without spoiling anything you'll undertake missions like in Metal Gear Solid 4 to missions where blowing stuff up is a huge thrill, to then walking about playing with dolls. Never before have I felt someones pain so much. The acting throughout the game is second to none and this helps to draw you into the would David Cage has created.

Heavy Rain was brilliant and I really didn't think it was possible to take it higher, he does and then some. In parts of Beyond you could fool friends into thinking you were in fact on a Playstation 4, it looks that good.

I am struggling to review this game as it's so difficult not to spoil any of the plot and to talk any more than I have done would be the wrong thing to do.

I'm a 42 year old gamer so not some snot nosed kid who's taken a break from GTA V or Call of Duty to play and review Beyond, don't get me wrong, fantastic games in there own right but please don't put Beyond in the same category, it's on PS3 but that's where it ends.

Beyond Two Souls is a very special game that both moves and has you sitting on the edge of your seat at times with some very tense moments.

The only thing stopping the game from getting full marks are the fighting portions of the game with missed stick pushes that seem to go the wrong way, leaving you confused as to weather it's you or the game that got it wrong.

Overall: 9.5/10

PS Vita sales jump over 650% in Japan.

Ever Wondered Why the PS3 Came a Year Later Than The 360 ?

IGN are reporting that the PS3 was originally scheduled to release alongside the Xbox 360 in 2005 without a GPU, with the cell processor handling all of the load. But then testing proved that this would be a disaster performance wise and a GPU was added, causing a year long delay.

“For a while, [PS3 had] no GPU, it was going to run everything with SPUs. The ICE team proved to Japan that it was just impossible. It would be ridiculous. Performance-wise, it would be a disaster. That’s why they finally added the GPU, closer to the end.”

Polygon also reported earlier that the PS4 version looks more visually impressive than its PC counterpart.

DriveClub Delayed, Contrast Becomes Day 1 Plus Game

Sony have confirmed that DriveClub has been delayed until early 2014:

"SCE Worldwide Studios and the team at Evolution Studios have made the difficult decision to delay the release of Driveclub and Driveclub PlayStation Plus Edition until early 2014," Sony worldwide studios boss Shuhei Yoshida explained. "Driveclub will be a truly innovative, socially connected racing game, but the team requires more time in order to deliver on their vision - and I'm fully confident the game will surpass your expectations.

It will still be free on PS+ when it launches next year and to fill the gap left by DriveClub on Plus at launch Contrast will now be free at launch.

New Killzone Mercenary Path Fixes Online Connectivity Issues

A new patch designed to fix online connectivity issues has arrived for Killzone Mercenary today.

The patch also improves the positions of respawn points to address balance issues and includes stability fixes.
