Gamestop Confirms 2013 Worldwide Launch for PS4

Michael Hogan, executive vice president of strategy business and brand development at GameStop has said that:

"We know that Sony will introduce the PlayStation 4 globally in 2013, but we are still waiting to see what Microsoft's final plans are. We have scenarios with one console introduction, as well as with two. Even a single launch in 2013 will drive double-digit console growth in 2014; and two launches would likely drive the console category north of 20% growth "

during a quarterly conference call with financial analysts this week.

Reports have already suggested that PS4 production will begin in August and 16 million units will be shipped in 2013.

Kojima Clears Up some Metal Gear Confusion

In a long interview on Game Trailers Kojima has cleared up some confusion around the latest Metal Gear Solid game.

He says that Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain will be released separately. "We can't comment just yet on how these things will be distributed and sold," he said. Ground Zeroes, the prologue, will come first, Kojima said, and will introduce players to the gameplay "on a smaller scale."

He also confirmed that David Hayter was not asked to reprise his role as Snake / Big Boss due to the desire to set this game apart from the others.

4) Every console will come with a headset

Sony has seriously commited to helping independent game developers.

At GDC this week they

" .. collaborated with the PlayStation Network team to host a PlayStation Indie Arcade event, where we gave hands-on demos for more than 25 indie games that are coming to all PlayStation platforms. Our goal is to continue to work with the independent developer community to provide fantastic games you can’t find anywhere else. "

Among these games are Primal Carnage powered by the unreal engine it is a single player adventure in a time where dinosaurs still roam the earth, mixing linear and open world gameplay.

Spelunky which the creators describe as:

Release details confirmed for indie favourite Thomas Was Alone

London, 22 March 2013 – Indie developer Mike Bithell and Curve Studios today confirmed the details of the release of “Thomas Was Alone” on PlayStation®3 (PS3™) and PlayStation®Vita (PS Vita).

The game will launch in the UK on the PS Store 24 on April 2013, priced at £5.99 with a 20-level DLC expansion pack also available for £1.99.

Thomas Was Alone is a study in simplicity. A 2D platform-puzzle game that quickly engages and engrosses the player with its charming storyline and art style.

Created by Mike Bithell, with a BAFTA-award winning voice over performance by Danny Wallace and with a rousing score by David Housden, Thomas Was Alone launched for PC and Mac in the summer of 2012 to critical acclaim and has built a strong following for the brand and developer Bithell amongst the indie gamer and development community. In addition to Danny Wallace’s BAFTA award, Thomas Was Alone also received BAFTA nominations for Best Story and Best Music.

Following strong sales on Steam, Independent publisher Curve has been working closely with Bithell and SCEE to port and publish the game on PlayStation, in association with Bossa Studios, Bithell’s former employer.

Praise for Thomas Was Alone:
“It proves that you don't need tens of millions of dollars and hundreds of staff to make a game story worth telling, just a good hook, an engaging vision, and a whole lot of heart.” Destructiod 9 out of 10
“Engaging, funny and fresh, not to mention stuffed to the brim with personality!”

Games Master 8 out of 10
“The understated aesthetic design and unusual co-op puzzles will absorb you for the game's duration – the wit and personality of the writing, though, will stay with you for much longer.” IGN 8 out of 10

Sniper Elite 3 Zooms in on PS3 and PS4

Sniper Elite 3 will hit PS3 and “Next-Gen” in 2014.
505 Games has announced that Rebellion will be taking on the task of developing again with a more open world focus this time.

Ian Howe, President of 505 Games, talked a little bit about Sniper Elite 3:
Sniper Elite V2 has been a great success for us and we are thrilled to partner with Rebellion on Sniper Elite 3. Fans can look forward to the same heart-pounding action they have come to expect from a Sniper Elite game as well as refined and new features that will blow them away.

Jason Kingsley, CEO of Rebellion, had this to say about Sniper Elite 3:
We’re very excited to be working with 505 Games again on a sequel that will build on the highly successful Sniper Elite V2. We’ve got some great ideas to improve on what we did before and feedback from fans has been invaluable. Sniper Elite V2 was just the beginning of what we want to do with the franchise, there are things we didn’t have time to do before that we can really look at featuring this time. We want to focus on making this latest incarnation of Sniper Elite more of a sandbox game but also build on the awesome X-Ray Kill Cam and the atmospheric World War II setting. We’re looking forward to seeing what Sniper Elite fans and gamers in general make of the latest chapter in the story.
The co-op in V2 was fantastic and we'll hope for a return to the frontline in 2014
